Before the tag office

Insurance

You need an Alabama proof-of-insurance card with this VIN on it before you can register. Call your agent with everything below in hand and it's a 15-minute conversation.

What the agent will ask for

Vehicle details

  • VIN: 5FNRL6H73MB024335
  • Year / Make / Model: 2021 Honda Odyssey EX-L FWD
  • Mileage: 36,678
  • Estimated annual mileage (you'll be asked — most underwriters expect 10k–15k)
  • Safety equipment: Honda Sensing suite, multi-angle rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, multiple airbags
  • Anti-theft: factory immobilizer, alarm

Driver information

  • Legal names, dates of birth, and driver's license numbers for everyone on the title and every household member who will drive.
  • Driving record (tickets, accidents in the last 3–5 years).
  • Defensive-driving or training course completions, if any — sometimes worth a discount.

Garaging & use

  • Garaging address (where the car sleeps at night — your home in Madison County).
  • Primary use: commute, pleasure, or business.
  • One-way commute distance and whether ride-share / delivery use applies.

Lienholder

  • Lender's full legal name and lien-payment mailing address (the dealer will give you this at signing).
  • The lienholder must be listed on the policy so they're notified of changes and cancellations.

Coverage choices

  • Liability limits (Alabama minimum 25/50/25 is the floor; 100/300/100 is a common safer choice).
  • Comprehensive & collision deductibles (a financed vehicle typically requires both).
  • Rental reimbursement, roadside, custom equipment — optional.
  • GAP coverage — see below.

GAP coverage: insurer vs. dealer waiver

Dealer SafeGap

$950 flat, financed into the loan (you pay interest on it for 60 months). One-time decision at signing. Can be canceled within 30 days for a full refund.

Insurer GAP

Typically $20–$60/year, added as a policy rider. Cancellable any time. Usually cheaper over the loan life. Ask your agent for an exact quote before choosing.

After binding the policy

  1. Get an updated proof-of-insurance card (PDF and physical) with this VIN listed.
  2. Keep the card in the glovebox — Alabama law requires it in the vehicle.
  3. Bring a copy to the tag office for registration.
  4. Confirm the lienholder shows on the declarations page within a week.
